JoAnna Decker is a graduate student at Old Dominion University. She graduated
Summa Cum Laude, with honors from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor's degree
in speech-language pathology and audiology and a minor in English with a linguistics
emphasis. She currently holds the position of president in ODU's chapter of the
National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association, NSSLHA, she previously held the
position of vice president for one year prior to graduating.
Her main areas of interest are aural habilitation and language development in the Deaf
and hard of hearing population. Her charity work and community outreach consists of
monthly participation in Families to Families, a local support group for families with
Deaf and hard of hearing children, the Speech and Hearing Association of Virginia,
and the Wards Corner Lion's Club Deaf and Hard of Hearing Carnival among many others.
Prior to attending ODU, JoAnna traveled the country as a singer-songwriter
and recording artist. She was on the television show American Idol and recognized in
American Songwriter Magazine for her songwriting abilities. She attended Berklee College of
Music in Boston, MA from 2002-2004.
